Geosciences Division of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Regional Office No. XI conducts Vulnerability and Risk Assessment (VRA) to municipalities of Region XI.  The program was conceptualized in order to utilize the resulting geohazard maps in producing a decision-making tool that the local government and other stakeholders could use in the formulation and/or updating of their comprehensive land use plans as well as implementation of other development plans and projects.

The Vulnerability and Risk Assessment is primarily aimed at identifying high risk areas within the municipality in terms of elements at risk such as population, roads and infrastructure utilizing existing Geohazard Maps of the municipality. Results of this activity will be of critical importance in the planning pre and post disaster in terms of resources allocation among the LGU’s constituents.

For this year, MGB-XI has targeted 14 LGUs for the said activity. To date, the team from Geosciences Division completed the undertaking on eleven (11) municipalities, namely:  Cateel, Manay, San Isidro and Tarragona of Davao Oriental; Mawab, Montevista and Mabini of Compostela Valley Province and New Corella, Talaingod, Kapalong and Asuncion of Davao del Norte.  Municipalities of Boston, Davao Oriental; Jose Abad Santos and Saranggani, Davao Occidental will be accomplished on the 3rd and 4th quarter of this year.
