Davao City – Davao City and its vicinities has experienced heavy to intense rainfall from 7:40 to 9:30 PM on October 25, 2021 brought by a localized thunderstorm. Prior to this event, PAGASA and MGB has already advised the public on the possible threats of severe weather disturbances brought by the onset of La Niña throughout the country.

Moreover, PAGASA has recently declared the Northeast Monsoon (“Amihan” Season) which will bring heavy rainfall events. Based on the data of PAGASA, the Matina Station has recorded an hourly accumulated rainfall of around 15.8 mm while the Calinan Station recorded around 9.5 mm. Both stations have recorded a peak rainfall data at around 8:20 PM with 6.8 mm and 4.0 mm respectively.

“MGB XI immediately activated our operations center and has been monitoring the situation since yesterday. This is to ensure that we are able to provide timely recommendations to the local authorities as regards the impact of the heavy rainfall especially on flooding and rain -induced landslides.”, says MGB XI Regional Director Atty. Flooding caused by several factors mainly attributed to riverine and urban flooding were experienced throughout the entire city. Few landslides were also reported on landslide prone barangays. Ongoing verification and post-disaster assessments were both conducted by the LGU/CDRRMO and MGB-XI.
