Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XI, led by Regional Director Atty. Jasper Alberto Lascano heads to Davao de Oro to meet with the newly elected Governor Dorothy Montejo-Gonzaga to discuss the status of the mineral industry and the geoscience programs being implemented in the province.
A comprehensive briefing on the mineral profile, large-scale mining, small-scale mining, and the Diwalwal Mineral Reservation Area status was presented to the Governor.
During the discussion, Gov. Gonzaga recognizes that Davao de Oro is the “gold” province of Davao Region and therefore strengthening the engagement of the province with MGB in the monitoring of mining tenement compliances and enforcement of mining laws is of utmost importance to effectively safeguard the environment and protect the rights of affected communities, whilst supporting responsible mining in the province.
The sentiment was echoed by RD Jas Lascano as he assures the Governor that MGB XI is committed to its partnership with the local government.
Briefing on the MGB rain-induced landslide and flood hazard maps and distribution of geohazard IEC posters and flyers was also conducted by RD Jas Lascano to aid the local chief executive and the Provincial ENRO in the geohazard preparedness and awareness of the province.
