Senior Geologist Allen June B. Buenavista of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau attended the Malaysia Window to Cambridge at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (MW2C@UKM) training workshop on “Geohazards and Disaster Risk Reduction: Communicating with Stakeholders” last October 10-12, 2017. The training workshop aims to enhance the capacity of geologists as geohazard communicators through sharing of professional experience in practice and clarify the different modes of risk communications. This training workshop was anchored on the Sendai Framework on Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 that identifies the need for progressive communication strategies and preparedness through participatory process tailored to the need of a wide range of stakeholders. Mr. Buenavista also presented a paper entitled “Grassroots Level Information, Education and Communication on Geohazards: A Tool in Disaster Risk Reduction of the Philippine Government thru the Mines and Geosciences Bureau” on the second day of the training workshop.
